Every song has a story. The origin of “Our Stone” was walking the back forty on the family farm. As I looked at the stone walls, I was struck by how sturdy they were, having survived centuries of rain, sleet, snow, and wind. More than a dozen generations of folks have come and gone, but the walls remain.
I have written and professionally produced several songs (leavingmeinpieces.com, goingbrokesavingmoney.com, and onebootoff.com).
"Our Stone Wall" connects the sturdy physical objects of our life to the sturdiness of the covenant of marriage.
I hope it encourages you to press into your relationships by honoring the sanctity of both friendship and matrimony.
~ Dr. Philip William Calvert

*Verse 1*
We stacked our days
Like weathered stones
Rough-cut truths
And broken edges shown
Hands got tired
Still we carried on
Laid each promise down
’Til the daylight felt strong
*Chorus*
Like a stone wall, standing in the rain
Every scuff a story, every crack a name
We don’t back down
We don’t walk away
This covenant holds
Like a stone wall in the gale
*Verse 2*
Winter came
With its howling doubt
Cold words thrown
Tried to wear us out
But we leaned close
Shoulder into storm
You guarded my heart
I kept your heart warm
*Chorus*
Like a stone wall, standing in the rain
Every scuff a story, every crack a name
We don’t back down
We don’t walk away
This covenant holds
Like a stone wall in the gale
*Bridge*
Mercy in the mortar
Grace in the seams
We fail, forgive
And fit back again
If the ground shakes
And the sky turns red
We’ll still be here
Stacked in love till death (oh yeah)
*Chorus*
Like a stone wall, standing in the rain
Every scuff a story, every crack a name
We don’t back down
We don’t walk away
This covenant holds
Like a stone wall in the gale
